Since GNOME moved to create a new desktop interface so called "GNOME Shell" which you can see in Fedora 11 version - the first and major distribution which used GNOME Shell, Ubuntu decided to stay away from that leads to introduce Unity. Personally I likes Unity over Gnome Shell though the later has better graphic design and eye-candy. Unity brings simplicity and better user perspective in mind which made it to win the contest but still there is lot of scope to improve.
Happy! Because:
- Hey! the installation is very pleasant and I never see like this ease in any operating system at present in our Earth.
- The desktop interface Unity's simplicity and productive
- The new dash board which lists shortcuts to applications and files
- Better Sound Menu integration
- Improved hardware support
- Global menu integration, though still to improve lot
- The new software center
- One-place system settings brings all the settings in one roof
UnHappy! Because:
- The traditional users of Ubuntu badly miss the top Gnome panel
- It sucks my laptop battery around 40% though this is the Kernel bug which needs to be fix ASAP
- Installing Compiz configuation settings or any subtle change regarding Unity breaks the Unity system. This is the major con of this release.
- Global menu has to integrate as rock solid. This is sloppy right now.
Do this After Installation completed:
1) Open Update manager and update the system
2) Open terminal neither by typing ALT+CTRL+T or SuperKey+
3) Go to "Appearance" -> Select tab "Fonts" and reduce font size to get sleek desktop windows. DO THIS YOU WILL GET REAL PLEASURE.
