Why Linux?(Continue..)

"Why Linux?"

Answer 2: You can customize the OS at any level. This is possible in great extent because of the source code of the OS available to you. Even a non-geek person like me can customize the look and feel of the OS and also the way it behaves. For instance you can access all possible hardware information and can draw their status on to the desktop. This can be achieved with a simple tool called 'Conky'. There are plenty of customization options available like 3D cube desktop(Compiz) so if you are bored with same look of your desktop you can change it. Surprise for sure!

Answer 3: It's Free. You no need to spend single rupee. All you need is head on to here https://shipit.ubuntu.com/ and order for one CD but it might be take 3 to 4 weeks to reach you. That's fine but I want to spin it right now, dont worry there is a way. Get ISO image from here http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download and burn to it the CD. Now you can install using this CD and this CD is called Live CD in Ubuntu world. Simple isn't it?

Fine Let's move to other direction where Ubuntu Linux shortened it's ability. The first thing is the absent of popular applications like Photoshop, Flash Authoring Tool and almost of all Microsoft Applications. So if you are a die-hard fan for MS applications then this is not for you. Still there is a way to run a windows applications in Ubuntu Linux through a tool called 'WINE'. Most importantly their is an alternative software for all windows software. Check this website http://www.linuxalt.com. The second thing is lack of hardware drivers for your hardware say like Printer or Modem. Nowadays this is not a big issue since there is a workaround solution/alternative options for your issue with just a click of Google search/Ubuntu forums.

But I am sure these are the common pit-falls for long time. Nowadays things are changing rapidly and with new kernel version and more OEM(Original Equipment Manufacturer) partnership these pit-falls surely will be a past story.

Let's spin Ubuntu Linux OS.

My Desktop - Powered by Ubuntu Linux OS

Why Linux? This is the first question probably every OTHER OS(mostly the 'W' OS) user may ask. The answer lies on your non-Linux OS experience itself.

1) System Protection - Virus! Virus!!

It is true that every 'W' OS user always worry about their system protection, I mean protection from virus, malware, etc. So what the ordinary user will do about it, subsequently he/she installs anti-virus application which you have to constantly update from day-to-day viruses, but it's fails in most of the practical cases.

To overcome from this serious issue, the best option is to switch over to Linux, where in my system I installed UBUNTU Linux OS. Now my system is free from viruses at most 99 percentage. So why you are dealing with viruses when the best option is available. Let's switch to Ubuntu Linux.

Below is the image of my current desktop:

In this post I have given first answer for "Why Linux" question. I'll post other answers in my next post and what's Linux, what's Ubuntu and cons of Linux. Yes there are some shortfall when you use Linux!

Note: I mentioned here 'W' OS, if someone not able to find the exact name for those I am giving one glue - "It is a window of all viruses"

Happy weekend!

A song stopped in middle.

A song stopped in middle!

Yes, Ms.Sornalatha one of the great singer of many languages has no more.
Thanks to her for a extraordinary song on a movie called 'Alaipaayuthe', the song name is 'Evano oruvan vasikeran..'.
She sung that song very beautifully with her unique voice and modulation which was supported by good music most importantly that flute sound.

May nature bless her soul.

திருக்குறள் - Thirukkural

Couplet 1
A, as its first of letters, every speech maintains;
The "Primal Deity" is first through all the world's domains

Explanation
As the letter A is the first of all letters, so the eternal God is first in the world

Thirukkural (or the Kural) is a collection of 1330 Tamil couplets organized into 133 chapters. It was authored by Thiruvalluvar. The 1330 couplets are arranged into 3 main sections and 133 chapters. Each chapter contains 10 couplets.

1. அறத்துப்பால் - Arattuppaal: On law/virtue
2. பொருட்பால் - Porutpaal: On wealth/politics
3. காமத்துப்பால் - Kamatuppaal: On desire/love

I can say this is the great gift to the whole universe. The reason is that it does not advocate any specific religion then prevalent in the world and this work stretches from birth to death that contains all parts of life such as law, virtue, wealth, politics, friendship, desire, love, family life, asceticism and destiny.

Throughout the work the author followed completely universal in approach. It is hence called 'ulaga podhu marai' (the world's common scripture).

Thirukkural has been translated in more than 30 languages includes Arabic, Chinese, French, Japanese, Latin, Russian, Spanish, Urdu and all major Indian languages.

The Latin translation of Thirukkural made by Constanzo Beschi in 1730 did much to make known to European intellectuals the richness and beauty of Oriental Tamil literature. In English the great GU Pope brought the Thirukkural to the western world in 1886

It is beyond the religion, region, language and caste. Let's come and find the 'true treasure'.
